The highly anticipated cinematic universe built by filmmaker Prasanth Varma is expanding. Mahakali, the next major chapter in the Hanu-Man superhero saga, has officially completed an intensive 125-day shooting schedule and is entering its final production phase.
Designed specifically with the IMAX format in mind, the socio-fantasy epic is aiming to deliver a visual spectacle unlike anything Telugu cinema has seen before.
Bollywood Stars Complete Their Portions
The film bridges the gap between regional and national audiences with a strong pan-India ensemble. Two key Bollywood actors have just finished filming their major scenes in Hyderabad:
- Rohit Saraf’s Telugu Debut: Best known for his Gen-Z favorite role in Mismatched, Rohit Saraf has wrapped up his portions of the shoot. His involvement is expected to add a layer of youthful appeal and intrigue across Northern India.
- Akshaye Khanna as the Villain: Seasoned actor Akshaye Khanna has finished filming his highly anticipated role as the powerful antagonist, Asuraguru Shukracharya, setting up a massive clash of forces in the movie.
Putting Authenticity First
While the movie features established Bollywood names, the filmmakers took a bold creative risk with the lead. Instead of casting a well-known A-lister, the creators selected fresh face Bhoomi Shetty to play the titular warrior, Maha. She portrays a dark-skinned, fierce superhero who channels the divine, raw energy of the Hindu goddess Kali.
The Team Behind the Screenplay
While Prasanth Varma remains the creative mastermind, writer, and presenter behind this expanding cinematic universe, the director’s chair is held by Puja Aparna Kolluru.
The film is produced by RK Duggal and Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under the RKD Studios banner. To elevate the mythical atmosphere, Smaran Sai is composing the music, and Sri Nagendra Tangala is leading the production design.
With the massive 125-day shoot now in the rearview mirror, the creators are gearing up to announce the official release date and launch the first teaser soon.
