“Culture Is in the Heart, Not the Neckline”: Kriti Sanon Speaks Out Against Raksha Bandhan Ad Criticism

Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon recently found herself at the center of a social media debate over a new Raksha Bandhan jewellery advertisement. The backlash primarily targeted the outfit she wore in the ad, as well as scenes showing her celebrating the festival by tying a rakhi to her dog.

The controversy grew after actress Kangana Ranaut publicly criticized Kriti’s look, questioning whether her choice of clothing was appropriate for a traditional festival like Raksha Bandhan.

Kriti Sanon’s Response

Addressing the backlash directly on Instagram, Kriti Sanon defended her ad and questioned the societal pressure placed on women’s clothing choices:

  • On True Tradition: Kriti stated that the real essence of any festival lies in the emotions and meaning attached to traditions, rather than the clothes someone chooses to wear.
  • On Tying Rakhis to Sisters and Pets: She explained that she and her sister tie rakhis to each other because they believe they can protect one another just as a brother would. She added that extending this affection to their dogs makes sense for them because pets are an integral part of the family.
  • On Fashion and Scrutiny: Pointing out that while ethnic fashion has evolved over time, women are still unfairly judged by what they wear. She concluded her message with a strong statement: “Culture & Traditions are in her heart, not in her neckline!”

Ongoing Public Reaction

The debate continues across social media platforms. Internet users remain divided over Kriti’s response, the creative direction of the advertisement, and how traditional festivals like Raksha Bandhan should be portrayed in media.
