Beyond the History Books: The Hidden Truths Behind Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s Ranabaali

The team behind the upcoming movie Ranabaali has released a four-episode documentary-style promotional series. The goal of this series is to explain the movie’s central themes and give audiences a clear picture of what to expect before watching it.

Episode 1: A Man-Made Tragedy

The first episode revealed that Ranabaali focuses on a devastating, man-made famine caused by the British in the Madras Presidency. By stealing and diverting food grains, British policies led to the tragic deaths of one crore (10 million) Indians. The creators also clarified that Ranabaali is not a traditional story about the Indian freedom struggle, but rather an exploration of this specific historical tragedy.

Episode 2: The Real Motive Behind the Railways

In the recently released second episode, lead actors Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna shared another crucial historical insight explored in the film. They explained that the British did not build the Indian railway system to develop or improve the country’s infrastructure. Instead, the real purpose of the network was to transport India’s valuable resources—including food grains, spices, cotton, and gold—to ports as quickly as possible so they could be taken out of the country.

During the episode, Vijay Deverakonda pointed out that because the British wrote the history books, they controlled the educational syllabus and intentionally left out these crucial details. Rashmika Mandanna shared her reaction to learning these historical facts, stating that discovering what actually happened during that period hit her like a storm.

Release Date

Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, Ranabaali is scheduled for a grand theatrical release on October 16.
