What is the Film About?
Set against the emotional backdrop of the 1947 Partition, Main Vaapas Aaunga tells a heartwarming story of love, memory, displacement, and long-held promises across generations.
- The Setup: The story centers on 95-year-old Ishar Singh Grewal (played by Naseeruddin Shah), who is critically ill following a stroke. He refuses to let go of life until he fulfills a 78-year-old vow to return to his birthplace in pre-Partition Punjab—now located across the border in Pakistan.
- The Mission: Determined to honor his grandfather’s dying wish, his grandson Nirvair (played by Diljit Dosanjh) embarks on a journey to piece together his family’s forgotten history.
- The Flashbacks: Through emotional memories and slurred recollections, the film shifts to undivided Punjab, where a younger Ishar (played by Vedang Raina) falls deeply in love with Afsana (played by Sharvari Wagh). Their love story is disrupted by the creation of the Radcliffe Line, forcing Ishar to leave for India with nothing but a lifelong promise to return.
